×10 means it was multiplied by 10 (+900%). The last row is bitcoin without skipping a single day: it's exactly the seven returns multiplied together.

    How it's calculated

Every day has its return: how much bitcoin rose or fell from the previous day's close to its own close. That return is filed under the day of the week it happened on, and each day compounds only its own: it's as if you'd bought bitcoin at the start of every Monday and sold it at the end, without holding it the rest of the week. There's no model and no projection: these are the prices that actually existed.

Days are counted in universal time (UTC), like exchanges' daily closes. In New York, for example, "Monday" runs from Sunday at 8 p.m. (7 p.m. in winter) to Monday at the same time.

The exercise doesn't deduct fees. Buying and selling every week has a cost that, in real life, would eat up much of the difference between one day and another. Nor does it say the pattern will repeat: with so many good and bad days mixed together, part of the difference is plain chance.

Prices start on July 18, 2010. The first return is the next day's, because it needs the previous day's close.
